![]() For example as I left the High Museum tonight (after watching a retrospective of longrunning Atlanta public access show “The American Music Show” featuring many very early RuPaul clips from her youth, thanks for asking) and strolled into Arts Center I saw there were two Southbound trains listed, one coming in 4 minutes and one coming for North Springs (which is of course a northern terminus) in 17. As mentioned by the OP there is something messed up with the displays in the station. Not nearly enough to make me reconsider it but it must be said. I try to support public transit when I can but admittedly I would say MARTA is a tad off-kilter relative to some of the other train systems I’ve seen. I’m not necessarily a MARTA warrior by any means, but I’ve certainly ridden it my fair share of times, especially lately on weeknights heading either to North Ave or Arts Center from College Park (And back). I have ridden MARTA hundreds of times (both buses and train) and consider it no better or worse than many other urban transit systemsĬuriously I read this thread tonight just prior to hopping onto a MARTA train so thought I’d record my impressions. Sorry you felt like it was a bad experience. From North Ave Station to the Airport is about 20 mins, plus 5 mins average wait time means you should be at the station at least 2.5 hours before your flight (possibly earlier if it's an international flight). ![]() Trains run every 20 mins but there are two lines running on the same set of tracks (Red and Gold), so on average you should never wait more than about 5 mins for the next train to the airport.Īlso if you waited late enough to run the risk of missing a flight due to a train arriving within 2 mins vs one arriving within 17 minutes, then you did not allow enough time to get to the airport. If you don't like something that's going on then move to a different car, or get off that train and catch the next one. Nobody is forcing you to sit in a particular car on a particular train. I've ridden the NYC subway extensively, including in some of the outer boroughs (Queens and Brooklyn) and I have not found it to be any more or less uncomfortable than riding MARTA. The only difference is it costs $1 more to purchase a reloadable Breeze card than it does for a Metro card in NYC. It's just like in NYC - you buy the card from a kiosk using cash or credit card, and there is an extra fee to cover the cost of the physical card. You also have the option of buying a Breeze ticket (which is cheaper) but must be preloaded with fares at the time of purchase, and cannot be reloaded once it is depleted, If you keep it and reload it then you do not need to pay the $2 again. FYI, the extra $2 is to pay the cost of the Breeze card itself. Interesting - I have been riding MARTA to the airport for years and for me it works great. We have traveled in the New York subway to and from the airport many times and never felt this uncomfortable and vulnerable. Mind you, this was at 9:30 in the morning. We also did not feel too comfortable on the train with some groups of young guys seemingly looking for trouble (holding doors open and making intimidating noise). It showed the last station as the next station. ![]() In the train, the station information did not work either and the conductor announcements were garbled. Luckily the train arrived after 2 minutes. ![]() On the platform, the train arrival information was not working, it showed 17 minutes and we were getting a little nervous, after already loosing time with the tickets. I put in a $5 bill and nothing happened, because they want you to pay another $2 for the service? There is nobody around to help with buying tickets and it took me a couple of minutes to figure out I had to buy Breeze tickets. We walked from our hotel, the Georgian Terrace, to the station and the first thing we noticed was the stench of urine, both at the entrance and especially in the elevator. We took Marta subway from North Avenue station to the airport and were very disappointed with the experience.
